We welcome two new members to our data science team. Rebecca Zhang joined Harmonic as part of a 10 week Callaghan Innovation programme and Sam Caldwell as a data scientist in November 2015. 

Rebecca has completed her Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Science conjoint degree and will start her Honours project in 2016. She majored in Finance and Accounting, and Statistics.  Previously Rebecca gained work experience at the Shanghai Pudong Development Bank in Shenzhen, China and has worked as a teaching assistant (Statistics) at the University of Auckland. Rebecca picks up new skills and concepts quickly and is familiar with R programming, SAS programming, and the basics of MatLab and Python.

Sam has recently completed a Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) and Bachelor of Commerce conjoint degree. He has strong analytical, communication and people skills. As part of his conjoint degree he specialised in Operations Research in Engineering Science and majored in economics and finance.

Sam has gained valuable experience in statistical analysis, predictive analytics and managing large data sets through summer internships with Ernst & Young, Watercare Services Limited and Beca – Transport Consultants.

Previously Sam worked as a Research Assistant at AUT (Auckland University of Technology) – Economics Department.   During this role he has managed a predictive analytics project collaborating with academics in the USA and implemented and maintained a project management software system for task scheduling, progress tracking and budgeting.

Sam is a competent programmer (R, Visual Basic, C, C++ Matlab, Javascript, Python) and is completing postgraduate statistics courses and MIT MOOC “The Analytics Edge’, to further develop his applied analytical skills.

We look forward to working with Rebecca and Sam on a variety of data science projects.  They will be based in our Auckland office.
