Sir Peter Gluckman, the Prime Minister's Chief Science Advisor, released the first in a series of discussion papers on the use of big data in social policy development.
"We are using insights from cutting edge social and behavioural sciences to underpin the powerful new tool of citzen-based analytics. This gives us the potential to gain unprecedented understanding of what interventions could work best, with whom and in what context", said Sir Peter.

The discussion paper is informed by collaboration, led by Sir Peter, between New Zealand and the European Commission. The research collaboration is exploring how big data can assist governments in the complex areas of social policy, development and evaluation.
